“Houston, We Have a Problem”
The Problem With Free Thinkers
Pardon me? What could possibly be a problem with the concept of free thinking? Aren’t we all on the “same page” when it comes to the issue of freedoms? Don’t we all have the same goals in mind? Surely in this effort, to bring back freedoms for the citizens of our country, we can have nothing but a win win when we consolidate to fight for this cause!
Yes, absolutely! However, there is this little thing that happens when we enjoy free thought, freedom of speech and expression.
It’s called independence . At the very root of freedom is the spirit of independence and individuality.
What could be the problem with that? Well, essentially nothing except that along with precious independence and individuality come differences of opinions. Along with differences of opinions, come variations of all shapes and sizes. For example; personal tastes, agendas, leadership styles, methods, preferences, and the expression of all of those varied distinctions.
You may ask, what is the problem with that? Again, nothing. That’s a good thing, except when all these differences are not resolved and contentions and dissensions arise in the “ranks” we run into stale mates, better known as disunity.
The left throw the words misinformation and disinformation around. On the side of freedom, we don’t so much have a problem with those terms; Ours is more often an issue with disunity.
It seems the freer the arena of thought, the more controversy is present. And yes, once again, this is indeed, the intrinsic nature of free thought and expression.
However, all too often, though we are all on the same side of working toward returning to and the preservation of our collective freedom, we bog down with exactly those incidentals listed earlier: Leadership styles, personal values, personal means and methods and more. And oh boy, these hills seem to be mounds that some of us choose to die on, all the while forgetting or loosing sight of the golden, priceless nugget - our freedom- which we absolutely cannot allow to die.
Well, you might say, this sounds rather simplistic. If it were that easy a resolution, we’d be sailing along with no issues. True! But when it comes down to the nuts and bolts of the task or issue at hand, how hard or easy do you find it to put yourself in 2nd place, or perhaps 3rd place, or 4th anyone? How apt are we to give recognition to another where perhaps the initial brilliant idea was our own? There are many examples we could draw on to make this point.
Going forward, we simply must understand how to manage this God given right that we are trying to preserve, this right of free thought, expression and speech. The stakes could not be higher. What we are fighting for could not be more urgent and pressing. We must not defer to our personal preservation, perhaps even our personal ego, at the expense of the accomplishment of our collective, history changing goals.
Also, importantly, we must understand our adversaries. The impenetrable wall of their lock step party line seems to be solid in an unequivocal bond of duty bound unity. We must recognize that the very thing that we are trying to preserve, our freedom, seems to be exactly that which threatens our unity if we do not manage ourselves with prudential diligence. Our strength can also be our achilles heel and could threaten our existence.
Sometimes, as individuals, we place too much emphasis on our own free will, insisting on our opinions, thereby loosing sight of what really matters.
Balance and humility must be our ever present companion.
We need each other in this fight. In every undertaking, we need each other. We are always stronger together. Do not forget that what the enemy fears most is our undaunted unity because with it, we win.
Folks, let’s remind each other to keep our eye on the ball! Keep your focus on what really matters. Let’s not get hung up in the weeds. Keep humble and don’t make your priority about how you personally are faring in the matter.
An ancient wise man once wrote:
“It’s better to have a partner than go it alone.
Share the work, share the wealth.
And if one falls down, the other helps,
But if there’s no one to help, tough!
Two in a bed warm each other.
Alone, you shiver all night.
By yourself you’re unprotected.
With a friend you can face the worst.
Can you round up a third?
A three-stranded rope isn’t easily snapped”.
