Forging Our Path to a Stronger Manitoba Manitoba Stronger Together's Policy Platform for the 2023 Provincial Election

1. Rebuilding Manitoba's Education System Post-COVID-19

At Manitoba Stronger Together we recognize the immense challenges facing our education system due to the COVID-19 lockdowns and disruptions. As we move forward our policy is centred on rebuilding and repairing the damage caused by the governments actions.

It is clear that "business as usual" is not an option. Instead, we must take decisive actions to ensure the continuity of quality education for our students while addressing their emotional and academic needs.

Policy Objectives:

  1. Academic Recovery and Support: We are committed to implementing targeted academic recovery programs to address learning gaps caused by disruptions during the pandemic. Our policy prioritizes additional support for students who may have fallen behind, ensuring they have the resources and assistance needed to thrive academically.

  2. Mental Health and Well-Being: Recognizing the toll the pandemic measures have taken on the mental health of our students and educators we will prioritize mental health and well- being initiatives within our education system. Our policy emphasizes the implementation of comprehensive mental health support services to foster a supportive and nurturing learning environment.

  3. Technology Integration and Accessibility: As a result of the increased reliance on technology during the pandemic, we will focus on integrating digital tools and resources into our education system. Our policy advocates for equitable access to technology for all students, bridging the digital divide and ensuring no one is left behind.

  4. Empowerment of Educators: We believe in empowering our educators to adapt to the many evolving challenges. Our policy supports professional development opportunities for teachers enabling them to leverage innovative teaching methods and stay current with educational best practices.

  5. Parent and Community Engagement: We understand the vital role parents and communities play in supporting education. Our policy promotes increased engagement with parents, guardians, and community members thereby fostering partnerships that contribute to students' overall success. Parents have the right to be part of the decisions concerning the content and approach of teaching regarding sexuality and religion, including the option to provide this education at home. Schools, on the other hand, should focus primarily on academic subjects thereby prioritizing academic topics over discussions of sexuality and religious beliefs.

  6. Relevant Curriculum: We advocate for curriculum that is relevant to all students includes those from a wide variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. In order to provide our students with a well-rounded and holistic education., our policy supports the integration of true historical perspectives and diverse voices.

  7. Transparent Communication and Collaboration: Effective communication and collaboration between stakeholders are paramount in rebuilding our education system. Our policy encourages transparent dialogue between schools, educators, parents, and the government. We want to ensure that decisions are made collectively, with the best interests of students at heart.

  8. Compulsory Life Skills Training: At Manitoba Stronger Together we believe in equipping our students with the practical life skills necessary for becoming well-rounded and confident citizens. Our policy advocates for mandatory practical education courses that cover essential topics such as home financial management, tax preparation, life skills, scheduling, cooking, and civics. By prioritizing these fundamentals over special interest agendas, we aim to empower our students to navigate real-life situations with confidence and competence. These courses are not just about academic achievements; they are about nurturing happy, productive individuals who can thrive in all aspects of life. Together, let's focus on fostering a generation of empowered citizens, prepared to make meaningful contributions to our communities and society as a whole.

  9. Parental Rights in Education: At Manitoba Stronger Together we firmly believe in letting kids be kids and upholding the rights of parents to make decisions about their child’s upbringing. As educators, our responsibility is to provide a supportive and nurturing environment for students to learn and grow without imposing special interest group agendas. We recognize that each child is unique with individual needs and backgrounds and it is essential to respect their personal journeys.

  10. Parents play a vital role in shaping the values and beliefs of their children and we must honour their right to guide their child's education and development. It is not the government's role to dictate social norms in society. Rather it is the family and the community that should have the primary say in shaping cultural values and traditions.

  11. By respecting the sanctity of family values and allowing kids to experience the joys of childhood, we can foster a well-balanced and inclusive educational environment. Our focus should be on providing a well-rounded education that nurtures critical thinking, compassion, and respect for diverse perspectives. Together let us champion the rights of parents, celebrate the innocence of childhood, and cultivate a society that values family, community, and individual liberties.

In conclusion, Manitoba Stronger Together's policy on rebuilding education in Manitoba post- COVID-19 underscores our commitment to a responsive and resilient education system. Through innovative approaches, supportive measures, and collaborative efforts, we will repair the damage done and create a stronger foundation for the future of our students and our province. Together we can overcome the challenges posed by the pandemic and cultivate an educational environment that empowers every student to reach their full potential.
